Laser tattoo removal is ideal for people who have body ink they regret for any reason. It’s never been easier to reduce or remove a tattoo from your body. Board-certified physician Dr. Rock Navarkal and our team at Mountain Med Spa in Denver, CO are highly skilled in delivering high-quality care with comfort and ease.

You may be curious about if you will feel pain during the laser tattoo removal treatment process. While there is some pain during the process, it isn’t as intense as any pain you felt when getting that tattoo the first time around.

Here’s some information about how our laser tattoo removal process works.

What happens during laser tattoo removal?

When your appointment begins in one of our private treatment rooms, Dr. Navarkal will cleanse your skin and apply numbing cream over the area to keep you from feeling too much discomfort. A laser device will then go over the tattoo surface and release light and energy to break the tattoo ink pigment into small particles. The body will absorb these particles and process them, allowing them to fade and possibly disappear.

This procedure is highly effective and doesn’t require a professional to remove any layers of skin, like what would happen in a dermabrasion process. Be advised that the tattoo removal effort is more effective if you are healthy and have a strong immune system. Your immune system is necessary for breaking down the ink particles in your body.

Does laser tattoo removal hurt?

The pain you will feel in the removal work will be minimal, as the numbing cream we use will help keep your skin from feeling these sensations. The procedure itself is typically described as not as painful as receiving a tattoo.

What else do you need to know?

Our treatments at Mountain Med Spa can assist you with all your tattoo removal and aesthetic needs, but be prepared for multiple sessions. You may require at least three treatment sessions scheduled about 4 – 7 weeks apart. The skin requires time to heal before you can enter the next session. Plus, your body needs to break down the weakened particles before we can continue.

You may also experience swelling or redness in the area, and some scabbing may develop around the region. We can apply a topical cream and bandage to the tattoo area after each session to protect the area.

Tattoos that are larger and feature more colors will take longer to remove, as the pigments may be very strong. More recent tattoos could also take more time to clear due to how the pigment is more active, while older ones respond better to treatment.
