What is Microneedling?
If your skin care products no longer provide the results you want or you prefer to avoid surgery, we encourage you to learn more about nonsurgical treatments, like microneedling. Dr. Rock Navarkal is happy to offer microneedling or collagen induction therapy. Microneedling uses a device with fine needles that safely and effectively create micro-injuries to the skin. The micro-injuries stimulate the natural production of collagen and elastin. These two important nutrients contribute to the appearance and health of your skin. Often performed with other skin treatments, such as vitamin serums or platelet-rich plasma (PRP), microneedling can help reduce pores, stretch marks, and scars. At Mountain Med Spa in Denver, CO, schedule a consultation to learn more about microneedling and how to personalize your procedure.

What Are the Benefits of Microneedling?
At Mountain Med Spa, we perform microneedling for our patients who desire a number of advantages:
- Diminished look of wrinkles, lines, and signs of aging
- Safe, nonsurgical procedure option
- Minimization of scarring, pigmentation concerns, or stretch marks
- Better texture and appearance of complexion
Is Microneedling For You?
If you experience skin problems, such as a decrease in elasticity or rough skin texture, we might recommend microneedling treatments. Microneedling can also minimize the appearance of scars, stretch marks, and pores. Because the elastin and collagen need time to increase, you will need to wait before seeing improvements from your microneedling treatment. However, once your skin completely heals, you will attain natural-looking results and gain healthier, stronger skin. During your consultation, we will assess your skin to determine if the treatment is right for you.
What Happens During Microneedling Treatment?
After we complete your consultation, we will take you back to one of our private treatment rooms. A team member will start by cleaning your skin to remove any oils or lotions, and if needed, we can apply a numbing cream. Generally, the pain is very mild throughout the procedure. Once we have prepped your skin, we will gently roll the microneedling handpiece over the treatment area. Often, patients combine this procedure with platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP) or another type of serum for enhanced benefits. PRP is a beneficial and natural serum that has growth factors and cytokines, which enhance the appearance of your complexion.
What to Expect After Microneedling
Following your treatment, you can resume your daily activities and may experience mild redness and swelling for about a day. Before seeing significant changes in the appearance and health of your skin, it can take around 1 – 2 months because the collagen and elastin levels need time to increase. You should schedule around 4 – 6 follow-up sessions every 4 – 6 weeks for optimal results and long-lasting skin health.
Microneedling FAQ
How much does microneedling cost?
During your initial consultation, Dr. Navarkal will evaluate your skin and then create your custom treatment plan. From there, he will discuss your costs and the procedure. Mountain Med Spa often offers discounts on treatment packages, so ask about our current deals in your appointment.
What exactly is microneedling?
Also known as collagen induction therapy, microneedling is a nonsurgical treatment to tighten and rejuvenate your skin. Collagen is a fibrous protein that helps keep your skin supple, smooth, and tight. As you get older, your natural stores of collagen are reduced, and your skin gets thin and loses elasticity. Microneedling creates tiny wounds in your skin. These micro-injuries cause your skin to generate new skin cell growth and increase collagen production. Once healed, your complexion looks firmer, brighter, and healthier.
Can I combine other treatments with microneedling?
In the process of microneedling, channels are created that make it easier for treatments to penetrate the lower layers. This is why microneedling is commonly performed with other treatments, such as vitamin-rich serums or platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Microneedling plus PRP is more commonly known as a Vampire Facial®. In your initial consultation, Dr. Navarkal will talk about which treatments would enhance your microneedling and which would most benefit your skin.
How many treatments are recommended for optimal results?
Usually, patients get 3 – 6 microneedling sessions to see optimal results. Although, how many sessions you need will vary based on your skin's condition and your goals. Microneedling can be safely performed every 4 – 6 weeks. During your initial consultation, Dr. Navarkal can estimate the number of treatments you will want after assessing your skin and listening to your goals. When you have reached your goal, Dr. Navarkal suggests scheduling touch-up sessions every six months.
Is microneedling safe for everyone?
On the whole, microneedling is safe for all skin types and tones. Skin injuries created by microneedling are so minor there are usually no side effects after the treatment. Microneedling can be applied to most areas of skin, including the arms, face, neck, chest, and legs. Microneedling isn't recommended if you've been on Accutane recently, as well as if you have an open wound, active skin infection, or herpes simplex. Additionally, you might not be a candidate for microneedling if you are nursing, pregnant, or undergoing radiation therapy.
How long does a microneedling session take?
A microneedling session typically takes about 30 – 60 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. The actual needling process is relatively quick, but additional time may be needed for applying topical anesthetics and post-treatment care.
